Ben Rathbone is the founder and creator of Plein-Air Map. He has a background in classical painting and web development. He graduated from the School of Representational Art in Chicago, Illinois. The School of Representational Art (since closed) provided a four-year, highly integrated curriculum of training that replicates the Atelier method of art instruction modeled after the academic painting schools of 19th century Europe. The instructors at The School of Representational Art were part of a lineage of instruction that goes back to Richard Lack in Minneapolis, R. H. Ives Gammell of Boston, William Paxton, of Boston. He also studied at the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto, the Palette and Chisel Academy in Chicago, and the Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia. He has a Bachelors of Individualized Studies from George Mason University with a concentration in Classical studies. He has produced art shows and won awards. He lives in San Diego, CA.
